Meh

I'm very sorry to tell all of you this but...

I finished Twilight last night and I honestly don't get all the fuss. My roommate and I have been discussing it in depth all week because she didn't love it either and we think it all depends on whether or not you fall in love with Edward. And I thought he was a snore. All I got from the endless descriptions of his beautiful smile and his marble arms and his amazing breath and his golden eyes was that he was super hot. I kept waiting for him to be funny or charming or charismatic in some way-or even have some sexy devilish side. I just felt like he was hot and rich and that was about the size of his appeal.

Lest you think I'm some kind of romantic cynic...plenty of girls probably thought Mr. Darcy was a big fat jerk and I think he's dreamy. I preferred Noel Crane to Ben Covington, Aiden to Mr. Big and would take Seth Cohen over Ryan Atwood in a heartbeat. I still swoon when Anne tells Gilbert "I don't want diamond sunburts and marble hallways,...all I want, Gil', is you".

This just wasn't my bag. You can all come back and give me a hard time when you hate The Time Traveler's Wife.

yeah, i'm not an edward fan either. i do however kinda like jacob, maybe it's the dark-man, black-hair attraction i have :)

but, I do think a book has done a pretty good job if you spend the week discussing it...

Anne and Gilbert are probably my favorites!

I have thought about naming a son Gilbert, but if he was a weeny he would be in big trouble.

I completely agree. I started reading Twilight in May 2007 and didn't finish it until February 2009. It just didn't grab my interest so the first 100 pages laid dormant for awhile. When the movie came out I thought I should finish it and it was all right. Not amazing, but all right. I probably won't read the sequels, but I do applaud Stephanie Meyer's achievement. Way to write and publish multiple books and to start a national/international craze.

I do love Anne of Green Gables. Read the entire series and loved the movies.

Ok. You just quoted my all time favorite line from Anne of Avonlea. Ahhh. I love Anne and Gilbert.

hello! you don't know me, i'm creepy-blog-stalking-friend-of-your-sister-Elizabeth. but i read your blog from time to time and decided to comment and let you know that The Time Traveler's Wife is one of my favorite books...ever...and Twilight was entertaining to me in the same way as Laguna Beach. So, momentarily but I wouldn't read it again.

Oh yes, I fell in love with Edward. I was obsessed. I think it was the whole protectiveness/waiting for Bella that got me. Although for the record, I can't stand Bella.

And I recently tried to re-read twilight and I couldn't make it through! So poorly written and the dialogue so cheesy. sigh. And I HATED the fourth book. Oh. my. gosh. It was terrible, she needed a better editor.

The other thing that I love about the series is that Mike reminds me a lot of Jacob bc of our whole back story. Funny how that worked out.

And lastly, I would have taken Ryan Atwood over Seth b/c of that whole protective/loyal thing, again. I thought it was so sexy that he would protect his adopted family and Marissa (however retarded she was).

Don't you love when I leave a marathon comment after a long absence?

Ditto about the Hot and Rich thing. I mean, what's there to fall for? It's even more ludicrous in the movie when they leave out half of the reasons she fell in love with him in the book anyway.

I love that you quoted Anne of Green Gables...for years my perception of romance was based on them!lol
For some reason it makes me giggle when people don't like Twilight. (:
LOVE The Time Traveler's Wife.

I'm a huge fan of the twilight series, though not because of Edward or Bella. I think they're both kind of annoying, and I usually skim really quickly through the cheesy "Edward you're so beautiful!" parts.

I think I got into them because it reminded me of what it's like to be "in love" as a teenager. I think I preferred Jacob so much over Edward because it reminded me of my relationship with my husband. Yes, the passion is there. But more important is the friendship. I never saw much more than a physical attraction between Edward & Bella, even at the end (last book).

Of course, I'll probably read anything about vampires, 'cause I'm a nerd like that.

I made it to halfway through the third book, but honestly couldn't finish it. I just got bored I did like the 2nd book though... incidentally, not much Edward in that one. Hmm, maybe I didn't fall in love with him either! lol. I thought he was a lot funnier in the movie, although I'm not sure how much of it was intentional.

I finally read it because I wanted to know what I would do if my imaginary teenage daughter was super into this book.
Do you know what my reaction was?
BURN THE BOOK.

ANY TEENAGE GIRL who thinks this kind of blind obsession with someone who so clearly spells out that he will KILL YOU is totally delusional and unhealthy in so many ways, you don't even have space for me to begin the horror I have at the popularity of this pathetic excuse for a love story.

Welcome to the reason over half the population enters into abusive relationships.
