She's crafty

One of the many and varied ways in which I have failed to live up to the expectations of my mormon DNA is my utter lack of crafting skills. I am much better with a credit card than I am at making stuff.

However, there are all these women in my family that ARE good at it. So yesterday when I wanted to make a fun treat for my work birthday buddy, I borrowed an idea from Emily and made a rainbow cake! I had to use basically every single mixing bowl I own and somehow both layers ended up a little taller than they looked in the recipe BUT, it looks pretty awesome and tastes even better.

I'll probably do something like this again in 2012.

That cake looks WAY BETTER than my "crafty" license plate frame with flashy details. Got out the hot glue gun, crystal accents etc etc ....it's in the trash now. But thanks for the insight. I had no idea this craftiness was a Mormon trait. No wonder I su**. But I'm not ready to give it up yet!! Does Utah have multiple "Micheal's" stores??

well my baking skills are light years ahead of any other crafting skills-I have about six scarves in various stages of unfinished-ness that would make you giggle.

and YES, Michaels is pretty much second only to the chapels in terms of attendance.

I like this post and the way that you say it.

Crafting is way overrated and ignores the basic principles of capitalistic economics, in my opinion, since labor specialization is what our economy depends on. Why do it yourself when you can pay someone to do it better and more efficiently?
