Lost in Translation*

*See yesterday's post for below to make sense.

A little known fact is that Replikate was almost called "just like honey" . This song had got yearning guitars, radical lyrics, and while I know it won't be everyone's cup of tea, it always makes me want to go out and get good and kissed.

Give it a listen and then go to Dainon's blog to hear his nomination.

May the best song win!

I've gotta go with Dainon on this one. that song is clean, simple, and beautiful. It gets my vote.

Oh, how could I resist...
#1 - That Buckley pick is too obvious. I mean, it's kind of the ultimate trump card, right? It's an incredible song, but that pick shows no creativity at all. It feels too much like some Rolling Stone article about "important" songs.
#2 - Buckley is nice without the naughty. The Mary Chain make squeeze the romantic out of the grit and grime.
#3 - "Psychocandy" is the best album ever.
#4 - I am old enough to remember when this single came out. Scary. I bought "You Trip Me Up" in London when I was lucky enough to be there in 1985 pre-Driver's License. I saw the band's picture in some teeny-bopper mag, picked up the single, went home, swore it was scratched up, played it about 10 more times and everything changed. When "Just Like Honey" came out a few months later, it was magical. Damn I'm old.

My vote is with you on this one. Good pick.

UGH! Both songs rule. I'm torn...

Dainon's is just beautiful, but a bit expected. I mean, really, isn't that pretty much the best song of all time? This competition is about the creative win.

And so, for that, I'm giving it to you. What a great pick!

Katie, I choose yours. I like the Buckley pick, but it can be way overplayed which unfortunately makes it boring. Yours is like a little packaged surprise of ooh. (the good ooh)

Katie you would have got steamrolled. But Jeff Buckley's hallelujah loses points for the numerous amounts of time it was played in the OC for all those montage scenes. Don't ask me how I know this I just do. So due to that and the fact that it's not the "original" recording of hallelujah I'm going with Jesus and Mary Chain.

Im going to have to go with Mike. He expressed my sentiments exactly. When I clicked on dainon's link I was like OOOHHH SNAP. But it didn't have the reverbs that the original recording had...and I do feel like being good and kissed after just like honey. 'Tis true

I lost for points for creativity, eh? Interesting! Ever since we decided to duel it out, Buckley entered my brain and wouldn't leave. It was simply a song I could attach a short story to, as well as an artist that been keeping me warm with intrigue and emotion this time o' year. Truth. That's my side and I'm sticking to it. I like your selection, miss. I like it a lot! :)

Hey, chica. Did you make it out west? So I had to vote with Dainon on this one. I loved your choice and was ready to vote for yours even when I saw that Dainon's was "Hallelujah," but to be fair, I gave it another listen. There's just something about "Hallelujah" that pierces you. I vote for the pierce.

And I don't think I'll ever get over what a brilliant writer you are. So enjoyable to read.

I vote for Dainon's - but don't let my vote discourage you as you know I am so out-of-touch with any modern music. :)

but I really think the greatest song of all time is Tom Wait's Closing Time from Closing Time and the greatest album of all time is Tom Wait's Heart of Saturday Night. (Yep, I bet you thought I was going to say something like Mel Torme's Swing's Schubert Ally... You'd almost be right. :))

i am voting with katie. i saw just like honey and was transported. though hallelujah is one of the most beautiful and passionate songs, it needs a few years so that we aren't over loaded with it. it is like that amazing chocolate cake that my friend's mom made for me. i loved it so much, i asked her to make it again. then i made it. it is amazing cake, but i destroyed it by eating it for breakfast, lunch, and dinner.

that is what happen to the hallelujah for me. i love it, but i just kinda got sick on it.

just like honey -- no that is a song that never got over played, but captures a sentiment so beautiful. that innocence that wants so badly not to be innocent anymore. the feeling of first or new love. all that.

nicely played katie!

So, I do love the beginning of Hallelujah, the clean and simple guitar...but I just don't love that song anymore. I know that popularity shouldn't make me not like a song, but something about watching Shrek over and over with my nephew and hearing that song played again and again has ruined it for me forever. Sad, but true. And yes, I realize that it wasn't Jeff Buckley singing it...but still.

And truly, Katie, I love your choice. Such a great song!

Howdee, Just tossing my two bits in on the game...

Of the two songs presented (which don't really work against each other in a head to head), Yours is the better.

Hi Katie....it's Meridith from the HB. I know I've told you before, but I love your blog.....and I think you are completely fabulous. I haven't posted before....but this post is too fun not to put in my 2 cents. So for what it's worth I have to go with Jesus and Mary Chain hands down. I am a succor for great 80's music and Jesus and Mary Chain is an excellent choice. I was hoping for something more from the duel song....I love Jeff Buckley and Hallelujah definitely does not leave one without a good dose of emotions resonating through the core, but I have to agree with Jayd a little too obvious a pick. Anyway, this is a fun game.
